Established as VMC Mahila Vidya Peeth in 1980 under Sri Venkateswara Vidya Peeth founded by Sri S. Alwardas (Former Minister of Education, AP), the college later became a Co-Educational Degree College in 2010–2011 and is currently functioning as a Private Un-Aided Degree College since 2021.
From the academic year 2023–2024, the institution offers Single Major UG (Honours) programs including B.A, B.Com, BBA, and B.Sc, along with MA and M.Com programs, serving 500+ students across multiple disciplines.

Admissions are conducted through OAMDC as per APSCHE and Government of Andhra Pradesh guidelines. The following is the sanctioned intake for each programme.
Alwardas Degree College strictly follows UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations. Ragging is a criminal offence and is completely prohibited on campus. The institution also promotes awareness through its Student Anti-Narcotics (Eagle Club) Committee for the academic year 2025-26.
